A Wind whispers before my very eye
A shrieking cry beneath a Rosy-fingered
Dawn – eating the sky.
That it might be so always, this world of ours-
These tiny fisherboats rowed close to the beach
With their nets dragging—
Splendid to see!
Day 1:
With the four lines shown above, what came into my mind after reading the poem was I thought of a barrio scenario wherein fishing is one of their means for survival. To picture the fisher boats, I first thought of it as the boat that are used by the fisherman. But, since it is after an adjective tiny it might be a scene or a memory of one of the speakers playing tiny fisherboats with someone else perhaps his childhood friend which he/she is closest with. The line That it might be so always perhaps deals with the sense of togetherness of the persons involved given that it is a world of two persons “ours”. My view with this is that, the one speaking here is a guy who is inlove with his partner. Then, what would be this world all about? Perhaps, we might say that the world they have the world they created-the world of unquantifiable happiness and passion.
Day 2:
The speaker in the poem likens his emotion to the tiny fisherboats close to the beach with their nets dragging. The emotion or the state of mind that the speaker tells us is something in connection to his passionate feelings towards the girl. There is romance with the words, boats, rowed and beach. Boats are romantic since it gives a sense of tranquility or peacefulness. Boats create ripples and these ripples are like love that resonates one’s feelings. When one rows a boat we can see sincerity on the said activity- who would admit that rowing is easy, not unless if he is really good or expert in such a thing. When we row, we exert effort for the boat to move and to maneuver or to row a boat requires patience most especially if you are still new to it. You should master the direction of the wind for you to come up with a smooth flow. Sincerity, passion and dedication are all connected to what we call love. these abstract idea of love is concretized in the poem. The representation of each the objects that are connected to Love.
Day 3:
I pondered on some of the words that are used in each of the lines. I would like to give my own definition on the words. First we start with the beginning of the poem. Might means there’s no sense of certainty, always is a habitual act, world where one doesn’t live but also exist, ours there’s a sense of possession to whatever it may be. The words in the first line tell us about the persons involved and the setting of these abstraction. World= setting, ours= lovers, might be so always= there are uncertainties with the things we have on earth, all we the things we have don’t necessarily mean that it would be with us forever. However, though all things are impermanent those that are tangible lives forever- its legacy(if we can relate this into the poem) continues. Perhaps the speaker values each of the things that sprout and live and exist in this world since he finds importance or take notice of them Splendid to see!
Day 4:
To know more about the poem, I tried to scrutinize what it means. The second line intrigues me the most with the fisherboats thing and the beach. It seems like the speaker is playing or having fun seeing these tiny fisherboats float and struggle. However, I realized that I was wrong when I read the word nets dragging. It is reflective of the rural wherein there are fishermen busy catching fish with their nets. Tiny perhaps it can only accommodate 2- persons without being sunk or drowned. It also gave us a picture the point of view of the speaker- he is like from a distance perhaps, enough to witness the details of the fishermen’s activity. When a fisherman rows a boat this activity requires energy and much endurance. It is like their love is a battle- fought with bloody hands and sincere sweat and tears.
Well, what intrigues me the ,most is the idea or several accounts of what Love is all about and through this poem it is seen through a man which is the speaker whom observes a typical activity of the people who live in the rural.
Day 5:
As a final blow, I would like to give my own views or insights on the poem ( like what I did with the previous entries). First and foremost, I consider the poem as a love poem because I see images that are of romantic touch, fisherboats, beach, world of ours. For me, I consider these words romantic in the sense that they hold a common denominator(sorry for the term). They all symbolize love. I also find the poem unique because of how it projects aesthetics. I find it interesting though the theme is common. The aesthetics in the poem is on how he finds beauty in nature- as the sea or this body of water is also a part of it. But what’s with the nets dragging? How could this picture relate with the lovers or as I say with the romantic poem itself? The 3rd line tellas aus about the dragging of the net into the beach or perhaps to the shore and he finds pleasure in dragging the net, splendid to see. Perhaps the lovers that we thought of are situated near the beach and their means of living is through fishing. Fishing is also like love, one requires a bait as a means of strategy ad so with the true sense of character of the person. When these person get attracted to each other they will both become the captives of their own desire just as how the fish are being projected. They were captured and lured by how the net devoured them.
